Pastor Warren wanted to so something very special for the Committee Chair.  Apparently, he went above and beyond the expected job and tirelessly supervised every step.  He was at the construction site daily, dealing with the small details.

I used the same image, but cut a matte larger so there was space for personal notes from the Parishioners and fellow Building Committee members.  He was quite moved that Pastor Warren and the Parishioners thought so much of his work.

“My husband grew up visiting his “Gram” on her family farm in OH. The memories he shares from that place envelop his childhood. Sadly, his Gram is getting older and one will pass on. And, who knows what will happen to the family farm at that point. I brought Brenda a photo of the farm – and pointed out a tree that my husband had given to his Gram at age 8, which now overshadows the yard. Brenda did a wonderful, very true-to-life drawing of the farmhouse, with the tree gracefully hanging in the background. When my husband opened the artwork on Christmas morning, it brought tears to his eyes (and that’s unusual, especially with his in-laws here looking on). I am an artist, not a business person.  That has never stopped me from doing anything that I have wanted to do in the past, but the joining of the Chamber seems really professional.  Artists can be professional too!  I don’t have an MBA,  but I am on a level playing field with lawyers, doctors, real estate agents, restaurants and businesses with a retail location.

One of those things I just need to get over!

Several months ago, I met Karl Murphy, the owner of Carolina Express Wash &  Carolina Auto Spa.  He was very interested in having an illustration done.  He has VIP monthly pass holders, and he often thanks for their business.  What better way than a hand written personalized note card from Your Door & More.  I was delighted.  As I stated before, a car wash is not in my portfolio, so I jumped at the chance to illustrate such a unique business.

I stopped by to photograph. I was so pleased that the building was brick. Brick has such warmth and character. There were small details of the corner blocks, jack arches and the headers. I met with Cathy, the Pastor’s wife. She had lived in a historic home growing up and had a pen & ink illustration of the home. She knew the value of remembering where you come from and personally loved pen & ink.

They occupied the facility at the end of March, with a grand opening of 18. I embarked on my illustration journey.  While illustrating all the brick, I was thinking of all the church member that contributed time and energy to their faith.  Each brick represents a unit of faith.  How many bricks are in this building?  Its amazing that faith can bring about such a space of worship.

I was so proud to be selected to illustrate for this wonderful community.

The Mom contacted me in January and wanted a lake-side view of the home in cards and portrait to hang on the other side of the dining room hutch.  She sent some pictures taken from a boat, looking toward the house.  I have to admit, the picture was really small and I was concerned that I was not going to be able to see what was going on.  The miracle scanning and blowing up allowed me to see quite a bit.  The end result was great.

Think of that vacation home you visited, or still visit, a pen & ink illustration would be a wonderful way to remember for your lifetime!
