The firm I work with MMI PR has assisted in the drafting of a press release for the Western Wake Artist Studio Tour. The opening reception is Friday, 6-8pm at the Cary Chamber of Commerce. Each artist will display one representative piece of art at the reception. This kicks off the weekend tour at the individual artist’s studios. We will be receiving visitors Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 12-5. Please come by and see some never seen work and some older illustrations. You can see my process too, its wonderfully interesting!

Gallery Opening Friday

Western Wake Artist Studio Tour is having its kick-off Reception and Gallery Opening Friday at the Holly Springs Arts Council building from 6-8 pm. There will be wine and nibbles to have while you view the artists work.

I have the Leslie Alford Mims house illustration in the show. I illustrated it back in 2008, as a gift to the Town of Holly Springs, as a one year anniversary gift of Your Door & More to the Town. My former business partner and I were able to present it to the Mayor of Holly Springs, Dick Sears. We were able to get a photo opportunity in the Holly Springs Sun, a local paper.

This kick-off reception is the first of three receptions; the second March 26-April 23 at the Halle Cultural Arts Center in Apex. The last reception is April 16 7-9pm at the Cary Chamber of Commerce.

The actual tour is Saturday April 17 10-5pm and April 18 12-5pm at each individual artist home. You are able to see the artist you like in their environment, and be able to talk to them one on one.

Please come and see the wonderful work that has been created by local artists right here in our own backyard!

Apex Historical Society

I have been selected to be the Artist in Residence for the Apex Historical Society!

I am thrilled beyond belief! I will be donating my illustrations of the local historic buildings and homes in Apex. The society will be using the illustrations as note cards, to be a constant source of income. They currently only have the annual plant sale as an income source. This will better allow them to further restore additional ailing structures in Apex. The cards will be on sale, later in the year at The Rusty Bucket shop, on Salem Street and at the Maynard-Pearson House, the headquarters, during the annual Christmas Homes Tour.

My goal is to capture the unique stories and character of these beautiful, historic Apex homes.

She offer unique imported & locally hand-made gifts. “Where unique and hand-crafted create a Peak shopping experience.” The one-of-a-kind items they offer help you create a individualized Holiday decorations for your home.

Your Door & More had the pleasure of illustrating their shop for the Open House on November 14-15th. They offered spicy cocoa, door prizes and cookies.

I loved the Holly Berry door spray so much, I bought one for my own front door!

You can also visit Tirza’s in Apex, North Carolina yourself and see my work up close. This is the only retail outlet that I deal with.

The Story…

I love stories behind homes. This particular story is about the Tulip Tree. When a Grandson was born, Grandma planted a Tulip tree seedling in the back yard behind the house. The Grandson is now 40-something and the seedling is a full grown Tulip Tree. The beauty of growth and change is that it is constant. These stories fuel my desire for human connection. I not only illustrate the house, landscape and yard, I tell the human story. That is my favorite part!

I am proud to show my work from the Reception and Art Gallery opening at Java Divine. This event was September 11 from 6-8. I had many well wishers and browsers. I even sold two pieces off the wall, to be delivered after the show close.

I also had many say they could not attend the event. Please remember my work is on display through the end of September. Pop in and sign my guest book so I can remember who was there!

This Bungalow in Fuquay Varina is a favorite of mine. I have driven by this beautifully old home in Fuquay for 15 years. I have always been fascinated by the simple lines and complex graceful curves of this old stately home.

Dog Days of Art, Part II

I had a wonderful time at Dog Days of Art today. The sun was hot, the clouds were high and the humidity, well, that’s another story; sticky. That is August in North Carolina. I hate to admit it but its good to sweat, it makes you appreciate the cooler weather, which according to the weather man, is on its way!

Dog Days was super. I met some GREAT local artist , Marty Matthews and Jackie Schafer, both of Holly Springs. I greatly admire both of their work and hope to see both again.

I do encourage all Holly Springs residence and all others to support your local arts, its very important for us to have a say too!

Holly Springs Arts Council presents a FREE EVENT! August 29, 2009 from 10am to 5pm, at the Holly Springs Arts Council Building, 213 West Ballentine Street in downtown Holly Springs. This event is featuring Artists from the Western Wake Artist Studio Tour and Local Dog Trainers, Vets and Shop Owners.

Stop by and see Me, as I will be a participating artist, showing some new work and a new feature to the growing list of things Your Door & More can do. You have to attend to find out what it is! No hints this time. I will post on Monday for all those who are not able to make this free family & pet friendly event.

Gallery Showing at Java Divine

Brenda Priest of Your Door & More will display classic pen & ink illustrations of local historic sites, such as the New Hope Valley Railway/North Carolina Railroad Museum (NHVRy) locomotive steam engine #17 and areas homes, at Java Divine beginning September 11, 2009. The gallery showing kicks off with a free to the public artist’s reception on September 11, 2009 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM: work will be on display through the first week in October. Opening night coincides with Art After Dark, a local arts movement aimed at increasing awareness of area artists that is held on the second Friday of each month.

Attendees of the September 11th artist’s reception will have the opportunity to talk with the artist, Brenda Priest, and should be sure to register for the drawing of an 8” x 10” custom illustration donated by Your Door & More. Free beverages will be served.

Artist In Residence for NHVRy!

Wow! Brenda Priest of Your Door & More is now the Artist in Residence at the New Hope Valley Railway and North Carolina Railroad Museum! I have been working on illustrating the oil steam engine for the NHVRy for a month or so. I delivered the completed illustration today to Bob Crowley, the Corporate Secretary (the man that runs all things related to NHVRy.)

This donation now qualifies me as Artist in Residence status. He will be using my illustration to sell in the Museum Gift Shop, for etched glassware and many other things yet to be determined.

This illustration really challenged me as an artist. I had never drawn a train before. I have to admit, the thought of the task daunted me for a few weeks, just the thought of drawing a train! I honestly avoided the project. One day, I just sat down and put my thinking cap on and just got down to business. It was hard, but in hind-site, no harder than anything else I have done. The task felt larger than it was. I broke it down to sections and focused on one at a time. Good life lesson here Brenda. One thing at a time, no multi-tasking here, just baby steps in the forward direction. Reminds me of the old song, ‘put one foot in front of the other…’ That simple philosophy worked for me before, must remember that for my next challenge, as there will be numerous.

I would love to reveal the illustration to my fans now, but I will be using it at an upcoming event, and don’t want to spoil it! Keep on checking my blog for further details.
